What are the university requirements for German universities?
Every German university has certain requirements and an application process. In general you should submit the following documents:
a certified copy of your previous degrees in the original language
a translated transcript of record showing your courses, modules and grades
a copy of your passport
proof of language proficiency
To be able to study in German you need to pass one of the following Tests:
TELC C1 univerity
Goethe C2
TestDaf with 4 points
DSH (normally DSH2)
University qualification exam
Other (sometimes the universities accept other certificates like ÖSD)
We recommend you to take the TELC C1 university or TestDaf exam. The exams normally contain the following parts: writing, reading, speaking, listening and some grammar.
For TestDaf and DSH you normally have to describe statistics, sometimes this also applies for the TELC university C1 exam. In case that you fail one part then you can only repeat this part when you decided for a TELC univerity exam. If you fail a TestDaf exam then you have to write the whole exam once again.
The advantage of a TestDaf compared to TELC is that you only need "4 points" which is between B2 and C1. In case you get for writing, speaking and listening 5 points but in speaking only 3. Then the total number is only 3 points and you would have to repeat the exam to be able to study in Germany.

Proof of financial funds
You must show your financial plan, starting from the tuition fee, cost of living, health insurance, and other expenses. If you get a full scholarship, it won't be a problem.
However, if you use your own money, you must show proof of financial funds to ensure that you have enough money to study in Germany. In most cases, applicants must have at least 10332 Euros on their bank account.The money needs to be on a special student bank account which allows the student only to withdraw up to 861 Euros per month. You also need a health insurance to study in Germany. Public insurance providers in Germany offer a student insurance for a price of around €80/month (under 30 years and study for less than 14 semesters). In case that you are 30 years or older than the health insurance fee in Germany is about €160/month.
If you want to earn money while studying in Germany, you can get a part-time job. You can work up to 20 hours a week.
German student visa
The requirements for a German student visa relies on your country of origin. There are different types of student visas. The student application visa “deutsches Studienbewerber Visum” is valid for 3 months and can be extended in Germany for 6 months. When you get the confirmation of the acceptance from the university, then you can change the visa to a student visa. This allows you to stay in Germany for the time of your study. Most German universities do not offer accommodation to the students. Hence, you can rent a place. The cost can vary depending on which part of the country you live in. In the big cities of western Germany and student-oriented cities, the rent cost can be higher than in eastern Germany.
